Complex Property Valuation

Issues in High Asset Divorce

Dividing a large marital estate does not necessarily mean a big battle in court. But you do want an attorney who can identify the key issues and protect your interests in settlement talks or litigation.

I am Jeffrey Klein, a Daytona Beach divorce lawyer with experience in complex property valuation and high asset divorces. I practice in Volusia County and Flagler County, representing either party — business owners, professionals and other high earners, or the stay-at-home or lesser earning spouse. Complex Property Valuation

Florida divorce law requires an equitable distribution of marital assets: (a) a 50-50 split or (b) a greater share to one party to account for disparity in earning power, child-rearing duties, contributions to the other's success, and other factors. My job is to predict which factors a court would apply, to correctly identify assets as joint property or separate property, and to determine the worth of those assets.

I have handled complex property valuations relating to:

  • A closely held business
  • Professional licenses
  • Retirement funds (401k, pension, deferred compensation)
  • The family residence
  • Vacation properties in Florida or other states
  • Rental properties and other investments
  • Vehicles, art and jewelry
  • Jointly held debts

I bring an accounting background and years of focused experience in divorce law. I have developed a network of business valuation specialists, real estate appraisers and other experts who can put an accurate dollar amount on these assets and testify credibly if the figure is disputed. I have also used forensic accountants to trace hidden assets and accounts, including transfers to family members in anticipation of divorce.

Let's sit down to discuss your desires in the fair apportionment of your property. I am adept at negotiating the trade-offs necessary to divide complex marital estates, such as arrangements for one party to keep the house. I take into account the tax ramifications and the present and potential value of your shared assets.
